$12 Billion Taxes

"Even though many museums operate as nonprofiits, they generate significant tax revenues to federal, state, and local governments."

Museums matter because they teach us

"Museum advocates from around the country share their stories about the experience of advocating, why they participate in Museums Advocacy Day, and the importance of advocating for museums."

Big congratulations to the American Institute for Conservation & Foundation for Advancement in Conservation on securing the National Endowment for the Humanities grant for the project, "Transforming Professional Development for Current Conservation Needs." 🌐📚

Let's also applaud other preservation projects funded by NEH, including those at Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts (CCAHA), Balboa Art Conservation Center, Midwest Art Conservation Center, The Institute of Fine Arts, NYU, and NEDCC | Northeast Document Conservation Center.

A special shoutout to former CAP participants that were also awarded NEH grants: National Blues Museum and Japanese American National Museum! 🌟

AIC Sustainability Wiki

Check out the results of the AIC Sustainability Committee Student Sub-Committee's 23-question survey about how emerging professionals perceive environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

The survey was sent to current students and recent graduates (2020-2027) of the Buffalo State University, Delaware/Winterthur, NYU, Queen’s, and UCLA graduate conservation programs.

"After a year-long controversy, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) has approved a new definition for what makes a museum today, marking the first time in 15 years that the group has done so...While the new standard mimics the definition's previous structure, it includes mention of progressive concepts like "diversity", "sustainability", and "accessible"--terms that are meant to reflect recent debates around the civic role of museums.

"We took this opportunity to reevaluate our field—where we had come from, and where we needed to go—so AIC chose the theme

...“the humanity of our profession,” because we have all begun to better appreciate that conservation and preservation are human-centric endeavors, and that just as we honor and acknowledge source communities, we also need to understand who we are and what we value in order to be holistic individuals."

"Our cultural heritage embodies the histories, memories, and perspectives of the people who created it, used it, and cherished it. In preserving the enduring power of these places and things, we ensure that their full stories will be told, giving us the opportunity to create a more inclusive and vibrant future not just for the field, but for families,

communities, and collections across the U.S."

"Preservation is part of the mission for a vast majority of U.S. collecting institutions. Yet many, especially small institutions,

have not yet prepared for emergencies and have faced challenges in many actions related to preservation, including

conservation practices with digital content."
